 Following a long journey from Kathmandu, we reach Syabrubesi. Starting our trek here, we cross the river using a suspension bridge and pass through a subtropical forest filled with oak, maple, spruce, fir, and blue pine trees until we reach the Lama Hotel. Continuing our trek with the stunning Langtang Lirung (7,246m) in sight, we climb through lush woodlands, grasslands, and Tamang villages to Langtang Village, the largest settlement in the area. In this village, we can admire the traditionally built stone houses adorned with intricate wooden carvings showcasing exceptional craftsmanship. Our journey then takes us to Kyanjin Gompa, offering breathtaking views of mountain peaks such as Langtang Lirung (7,246m), Gang Chhenpo (6,388m), Naya Kangri (5,846m), Yala peak (5,500m), Tsergo RI (5,000m), and Dorje Lakpa (6,966m), along with a visit to the cheese factory. We then trek back to Thulo Syabru via the Lama Hotel, where we can experience the rich traditions and culture of the classic village. Enjoying the splendid views of Ganesh Himal (7,110m), Langtang Himal, and its ranges, we proceed to Shin Gompa and make our way to the sacred lake of Gosaikunda (4,460m). Descending to Chandanbari, we continue on the trail to Dunche before finally returning to Kathmandu.

The Langtang Valley is a habitat for over 250 bird species, including hawks, hoopoes, cuckoos, barbets, owls, nightjars, laughing thrushes, red-billed parrots, and parakeets, among others. Moreover, it offers a sanctuary to more than 1,000 types of plants and various animals, such as the Himalayan tahr, rhesus monkey, common langur, snow leopard, tigers, wild boar, red panda, pica, musk deer, and Himalayan black bear. Today, we’ll set off to the north of the Kathmandu and advance to Syabrubesi (1,550m) via public bus or sharing jeep that will utilize about 7-8 hours.  Accompanied by the astonishing vistas of foothills and ridgeline, we push forward along the bank of ferocious river Trishuli making our way through the settlements of Trishuli Bazaar, Betrawati and Dhunche. En route, we can enjoy the delightful landscape embracing lush greenery, terraced farmlands, green hillocks, and pristine villages overlooked by Mt. Annapurna II, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and other neighbouring snow-capped peaks.

This morning, commencing the trekking adventure of our escapade, we’ll first traverse the Bhote Koshi River then pursue the Langtang Khola. We then come across the stream at Dovan(1680m). Then, we’ll climb uphill along the abrupt trail that first proceeds past Landslide area (Pahiro) then Bamboo (1,960m), all the way through the woodland of oak and rhododendron to Ramche (2,400m). If lady luck is on our side, we may see monkeys, red pandas, yellow-throated martens, and Himalayan Black Bear during our journey.

The fifth day of our trek kicks off with a gentle uphill ascent that gradually turns becomes steeper as we proceed further across the woodland of rhododendron, oak and maple overlooking the Langtang Khola. Beyond the trees, we can catch a glance of Mt. Langtang Lirung (7,244m). The trail now progresses to the other end of Log Bridge and make it to lush grassland of Ghora Tabela (2,992m). From here, the trail steadily heads upward to the other end of rhododendron woods and makes it to the Tamang settlement of Mundu. Past gushing streams and prayer wheels, the trail finally reaches Langtang Village (3,430m). In this lovely village, you can observe village beautiful flat-roofed houses showcasing Tibetan-style architecture alongside the blissful outlook of sublime landscapes.

With the crack of the dawn, we move along the trekking trail that makes an ascent to the top of a ridge then forges ahead of the Mani wall and a sparkling stream to Mundu Village (3,442m). From this point onwards, the trekking trail progresses to the other side of many bridges constructed over spurting streams then eventually arrives at Kyangjin Gompa (3,870m) past several glacial moraines. Furthermore, you can also catch the glimpses of icefall flowing from the peaks of Langtang Lirung and Kimshung.

The day seven of our escapade is allocated for rest and acclimatization purposes. At higher elevations, it is must adapt according to the oxygen-deficient surroundings in order to avoid unwelcome trouble such as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). In addition, it is well-established fact that short hikes can speed up this process of adaptation (acclimatization). From Kyangjin Gompa, you may hike to the top of Kyanjin Ri (4350m) and Tserko Ri (5,000m) where you can witness mind-boggling panorama comprising Langtang range, Kinshung, and Yansa Tsenji. Rest of the day, you can explore Kyangjin Gompa and its outskirts. Gaze the panorama encompassing snow-clad peaks of Langtang Lirung (7,246m), Tsergo RI (5,000m), Yala peak (5,500m), Naya Kang (5,844m), Dorje Lhakpa (6,430m), Langshisa Ri (6,427m) and Ganja La (5,160m).

Today, we’ll pursue the same trekking trail back along the Langtang Khola to Langtang village then move forward to Ghora Tabela. Thereafter, we’ll continue an abrupt descent to Lama Hotel (2,380m). All the way, we closely watch the spell-binding mountain vistas that we could have missed during our ascent.

At the break of the day, we’ll make headway to Landslide area (Pahiro) then advances through pine and Junipers woodlands to Thulo Syasbru (2,230m). En route, you may have an encounter with red pandas, monkey and several species of birds. The sublime village of Thulo Syasbru bestows splendid outlooks that encompass picturesque landscapes and snow-covered peaks of Ganesh Himal (7,110m), Langtang Himal and its ranges.

We’ll trek on the wide trail that ascends to the settlement of Dimsa then extends further beyond the woodlands of oak, hemlock, and rhododendron to Shin Gompa (3,200m). This is another destination in our trek that is famous for cheese as Shin Gompa is home to a cheese factory. Don’t miss to taste the Yak cheese here!! Along the trekking path, we can view magnificent vista of Langtang Himal and Langtang valley.

Early in the morning, we tighten up our shoelaces and gradually ascend uphill to Laurebinayak (3,900m). On this spot, we commence our abrupt climb to Gosainkunda. With euphoric vistas by our side, which embraces Manaslu range, Ganesh Himal range, Tibetan peaks and Langtang Lirung; we push forward on the rugged trail to high grasslands. If we fortunate enough to trek on a clear day, we might catch a glance of Annapurna Range. After getting initial looks of holy lakes of Gosainkunda, we subsequently set foot in the primary lake, known to the world as Gosainkunda. Sacred to Hindu pilgrims; the lake is believed to be created when Lord Shiva thrust his trident to obtain water in order to get relief from the burning sensation that he felt when he swallowed the deadly poison. The Gosainkunda Lake is one of the three chief lakes in Gosainkunda Basin; other two being Saraswatikunda and Bhairab Kunda.

Resuming our trek, we’ll trek on the precipitous trail that leads to the other end of rhododendron woodland then ends up at Laurebinayak (3,900m). From this point onward, the trekking path steers Chalangpati (3,650m) exhibiting stupendous display of Mt. Langtang on the way.  As the trail reaches Chandanbari (3,200m), we set our foot in this lovely village which is also known as Shin Gompa locally. You can pay a visit to the local yak-cheese factory where you can observe the cheese-making process and acquire a taste of locally produced cheese.

This is the final trekking day of the escapade in which we’ll traverse the dense woodlands and pristine villages, making our way to Dhunche. Alongside, we’ll also enjoy the views of scenic terrain encompassing sparkling river and verdant greenery.
