The Upper Mustang Permit and Cost

A special permit is required for the Upper Mustang tour, as well as a mandatory conservation area permit. The permit fee is $500 for 10 days. Once the initial permit expires, the governing body charges an additional $50 per day. It is important to note that the permit is valid for 10 days, starting and ending in Kagbeni. The Upper Mustang region is a restricted zone, and entry without a permit is strictly prohibited. Before 1992, foreigners were not allowed to enter this region. Situated 200km away from Kathmandu in the western direction, Pokhara offers a captivating experience. It is important to note that the bus departs at 7:00 am, so it is advisable to be present at least 10 minutes before the departure time. As we wind through the dusty trail, we arrive at Chhuksang passing through Tangbe village, home to the Gurung, Thakali, and Lo Families. Take a moment to explore the village before continuing on to Chele, located near the flat Kaligandaki. Upon crossing the Kali Gandaki River and ascending to Chele village, immerse yourself in the ancient village's monasteries, stunning cliffs, and red hills. Nestled near the China (Tibet) border, this 5-story cave built into a cliff features over 40 rooms interconnected by numerous ladders.
