Khopra Trek embarking on the captivating adventure, we will explore Kathmandu City in a private vehicle, taking in the sights of various landmark sites that hold both historical and cultural significance of Nepal. These sites include the revered Hindu shrine of Pashupatinath, the sacred Buddhist shrines of Boudhanath and Syambhunath, and the renowned Kathmandu Durbar Square, all of which are recognized as UNESCO world heritage sites. Once our exploration is complete, we will commence our way to the most visited Khopra Trekking trail from Nayapul, situated at an altitude of 1070m. The trail will lead us through a series of stone steps, passing by terraced farms and friendly locals above the Modi Khola valley. As we journey, we will be treated to breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains, eventually arriving at the enchanting village of Ghandruk (1,830m), inhabited by the hospitable Gurung community.

In the early morning, we will have the opportunity to witness the sunrise over Annapurna South (7,219m), Himchuli (6442m) Annapurna III (7,555 m), Gangapura (7455m), Fishtail(6994m) in Ghandruk, immersing ourselves in the authentic Gurung culture. Continuing our trek, we will pass through the villages of Dobato and Chistibung, ultimately reaching Khopra Ridge (3,660m). From this vantage point, we will be able to marvel at the panoramic and awe-inspiring mountain vistas, including Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Tukuche Peak (6,800m), Nilgiri (6,600m), Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South Face (7,219m), Hiunchuli (6,441m), Machhapuchhre (6,993m), Annapurna II (7,937m), and Manaslu (8,163m). With these majestic views etched in our memories, we will continue our journey towards the village of Swanta (2,200m). Descending further, we will pass through the Magar village of Ulleri (2,050m) before returning to our starting point, Nayapul, marking the end of our extraordinary expedition.

Khopra Trek, also referred to as Khopra Rim, Khopra Ridge, and Khayer Lake Trek, is a popular trekking route nestled in the Annapurna South(7219m). Situated within the Annapurna Conservation Area, embarking on this journey from Naya Pul requires two permits: the ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit) priced at USD 30 per person, and the TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System) Card priced at USD 20 per person.

Namaste!! Warm welcome in the alluring mountainous nation; embraced by the Himalayas. After your arrival in the Kathmandu, we’ll come together outside the terminal hall of the Kathmandu Airport (TIA). Eventually, you’ll be escorted to your hotel via a private car. A meeting with your trek guide is arranged where you can have few professional advice regarding your upcoming adventure. You can take a break in your hotel room after a long and tiresome journey, enjoying the services provided by your hotel. If you don’t wanna stay ideal in your room, an evening wander around the appealing Thamel Bazaar aka the tourist capital of Nepal.

After some breakfast, we’ll set off to a 7 hours long sight-seeing tour around the Kathmandu City via a private car; under the guidance of a professional guide.  Today, you’ll be exploring the landmark sites that are well-renowned worldwide. Additionally, the sites are enlisted in the UNESCO world heritage list. Initially, you’ll pay a visit to the sacred Hindu shrine of Lord Pashupatinath; located on the banks of holiest Bagmati River. You’ll then spend some time admiring the marvellous architecture and beauty of sacred Buddhist shrine of Boudhanath and Swayambhunath. Afterwards, you’ll stopover in the magnificent Kathmandu Durbar Square, which harbours Kumari Ghar: the home of living deity of Goddess Kumari, Swet Bhairav, Kaal Bhairav, Freak street etc. Located in the heart of Kathmandu City, the durbar square used to be royal residence of ancient rulers and possesses various forms of fine arts in its every corner.

Today, you’ll head to the lovely city of Pokhara on a tourist bus via Prithvi Highway. The bus journey on the approx. 200km of meandering roadway takes about 7-8 hours depending on the traffic conditions. This journey provides you with the window of opportunity to witness amazing landscapes and the lifestyle of commoners in Nepal, outside the Kathmandu Valley. You’ll never be alone throughout this awesome bus ride as the ferocious river Trishuli and Masryangdi will accompany you. As you advance to Pokhara, you’ll observe the chain of snowy mountain peaks and green hills at a distance with numerous human settlements alongside the Highway. These settlements also host radiant local markets full of people where one can buy daily commodities. Once at Pokhara, you can rest and prepare for your forthcoming backpack. You can also enjoy the naturally beautiful Pokhara via boating in its celebrated lakes such as Phewa and Begnas; or visit its landmark sites like Mahendra Cave, Davis Falls, World Peace Pagoda, International Mountain Museum, and many more.

At first light, we head to Nayapul from Pokhara. The drive takes about one hour on a private vehicle.  Nayapul to Ghandruk trek distance is 8.6 km. From here, we’ll commence our trek. A gentle downhill descent across the rhododendron along the banks of Modi River will lead us to Birethanti (1,015m). It utilizes about 30 minutes. Here, we are required to show our trekking permit and TIMS at the ACAP outpost. Eventually, we trek for two hours on the trail that progresses across Chimrung to Syauli Bazar (1,210m). The trail continues to ascend uphill between the agricultural terrace fields, which is as pretty as a picture. We can enjoy the majestic view of the Machhapuchhre Himal (6,696m) en route. Finally, we arrive at the alluring village of Ghandruk (1,940m).  Chiefly inhabited by Gurung communities, the village deploys the concept of eco-tourism; therefore, regarded as one of the well-managed villages in the region. The village bestows the detailed insight of culture, tradition, and heritage of Gurung ethnic group alongside sublime vistas of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Hiunchuli and Annapurna South.

We advance on the trail that departs from Ghandruk and ascends across rhododendron forest pursuing a cascading stream to Tadapani (2,630m). Along the trail, we can observe exceptional flora such as exotic orchids and ferns. Witnessing awe-inspiring vistas of enchanted Annapurna all around us; we come across Bhesi Kharka and gently ascend through the forest comprising of rhododendron and magnolia together with Daphne bushes and orchids nourished by larger trees. We now progress beyond small meadow with its tumbling stream and climb up through the clumps of bamboos. Lastly, we arrive at Dobato (3,350m). If time permits, we may visit a small ridge called Muldai View Point is positioned just above Dobato. The viewpoint extends the jaw-dropping panoramic outlook of Dhaulagiri range to the north-west, Annapurna range in the middle with Mt. Machhapuchhre to the South.

Initially, for nearly one hour we proceed along the trail through the forest; then, escape into grassland known as Bayli Kharka. Further beneath to the west of Bayli Kharka, we can observe astounding vistas of prepossessing Kali Gandaki Valley with the immense Dhaulagiri Massif (8,167m) high above our head. The trail now takes us downhill along one of the clear streams, which we cross via a wooden bridge. Afterwards, we move through many alluring flatland, pasture, and forest, progressively ascend to a temporary herder’s settlement of Chistibung (2,975m).

Today, we trek through the region inhabited by Himalayan tahr and Danfe pheasant. If lucky, we may get a glimpse of these beautiful birds. We subsequently trek for few hours and reach Kopra Danda (3,450m) where we are rewarded with the boundless beauty of snow-capped mountain peaks. This picturesque outlook embodies Nilgiri and Fang/Bahra Sikhar prominent to the north alongside Annapurna South i.e. only six km away from us. From this point, we can also see the depths of Kali Gandaki valley overcome by the mighty Dhaulagiri range across the entire western horizon.

On our way to Ulleri, we’ll descend on the trail that goes abruptly through the farmland, then across the small river via a suspension bridge.  We’ll now ascend upward to the village of Chitre and subsequently unite with the prime trekking trail to Ghorepani. Afterwards, we make it to Nangethanti (2,460m) through rhododendron forest and finally arrive at Ulleri (2,050m).

Resuming our adventures, we now trek abruptly via stone steps to the banks of Bhunungi Khola and cross it via the suspension bridge. From this point onwards, we trek to Tikhedhunga (1,540m) and descend furthermore to Birethanti (1,015m). A 30 minutes walk will take us to Nayapul. From here, we’ll head to Pokhara on an hour drive via a private vehicle.

Today, you set off back to Kathmandu via a tourist bus. The bus journey through the Prithvi highway takes about 7-8 hours depending on the traffic conditions. The green farmlands, spewing rivers and verdant woodlands along the highway tend to tempt you. Eventually, you’ll reach Kathmandu City where you can relax in your hotel room or just take a walk around clicking pictures as memories. You can also buy souvenirs to take back home for your loved ones.
